There are so many things that can contribute to creating “good soil” or a rich environment for our hearts, minds, and bodies to grow and flourish. I think we can sum up these things into three basic elements: Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. When we are surrounded by these things and allow ourselves to be affected by their transcendent qualities we can’t help but change and grow.
How often have you heard yourself say these words, or have heard other people say this when you can clearly see they could benefit from a little help. Why do we do this to ourselves? When we need the most help, we isolate ourselves from the people we love the most. See, time and time again I have turned down many people’s offer to help; but, what I didn’t realize until recently was: my attempt to protect and safeguard my ego, was destroying the relationships around me.
Each of us needs the space and the freedom to learn and grow without fear of failure or judgment. We need the space to make mistakes, to try new things, and to possibly fail. Being a safe place for someone is one of the greatest gifts you can give.
