This prayer to the Holy Spirit originated with Pope Leo XIII. In 1895 he exhorted all Catholics to devoutly make this Holy Spirit Novena, suggesting a special formula of prayer: “Send forth your Spirit and renew the world.” With this in mind, in 1896 Saint Elena Guerra (“the Holy Spirit Apostle of modern times”) composed these invocations to ask the Holy Spirit for the grace of a New Pentecost, which renews the face of the earth.
